Biography:

Born in Washington, D.C., March 24, 1931.  Son of James S. McAuliffe, Sr., and Grace Marie (Morningstar) McAuliffe.  Attended Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School; Montgomery Junior College, A.A., 1951; Washington College of Law of American University, J.D., 1954.  Admitted to the Maryland Bar, 1954.  Married; four children.  Died April 30, 2011.  Buried at St. Gabriel Cemetery, Potomac, Maryland.

General Assembly:
House of Delegates Montgomery County, 1963-67.  Member of Senate, Legislative District 3A (Montgomery County), 1971-75. Democrat.

Private Career and Other Public Service:
Assistant state's attorney, Montgomery County, 1959-62.  Chair, Montgomery County Ethics Commission, 1967-71.  Member and vice-chair, board of trustees of Montgomery College, 1968-71.  Judge, District Court of Maryland, District 6, Montgomery County, 1978-81.  Judge, Montgomery County Circuit Court, 6th Judicial Circuit, 1981-92.  Member, State Prosecutor Selection and Disabilities Commission, 1979-81.  Member, Montgomery County, Maryland State and American Bar Associations; American Judicature Society; National Association of Defense Lawyers in Criminal Cases.  Fellow, American College of Trial Lawyers.  Member and secretary, Rockville Kiwanis Club.  Eagelton Institute Outstanding Legislator Award; Law School American Jurisprudence Awards in Bailments, Bills and Notes, Evidence and Sales. Member, Society of Senates Past.
