ELEVENTH GENERATION

1962. George Abbott was born about 1630 in England. He died on Mar 22 1688/89 in Andover, Massachusetts. George Abbott came to New England with his parents probably about 1642. They settled at Rowley and afterwards, in 1655, moved to Andover. he was a farmer and tailor, and obviously very successful, as he was listed on the tax rolls as one of the five wealthiest men in Andover.

He was a member of Sargeant James Osgood's militia company and was elected a freeman on May 19 1669. He was elected constable for the north side of town on June 3 1680. He very likely held other offices, but the number of George Abbotts living in Andover at that time makes it impossible to tell in all cases which was which.

He was the great great great great grandfather of President Rutherford B. Hayes. He was married to Sarah Farnum on Apr 26 1658 in Ipswich, Massachusetts.

1963. Sarah Farnum was born in 1638 in Southampton, Hampshire, England. She died on May 12 1728 in Andover, Massachusetts. Children were:

i. George Abbott was born on Jan 28 1659 in Andover, Massachusetts.
ii. Sarah Abbott was born on Sep 6 1660 in Andover, Massachusetts. She died on Nov 6 1723.
iii. John Abbott was born on Aug 26 1662 in Andover, Massachusetts.
iv. Mary Abbott was born on Mar 20 1664/65.
v. Nehemiah Abbott was born on Jul 20 1667 in Andover, Massachusetts. He died on Oct 8 1750.
vi. Hannah Abbott was born on Sep 20 1668 in Andover, Massachusetts.
vii. Mehitabel Abbott was born on Feb 17 1671.
viii. Lydia Abbott was born on Mar 31 1675 in Andover, Massachusetts. She died on Mar 11 1739.
ix. Samuel Abbott was born on May 30 1678 in Andover, Massachusetts.
