1922. Captain William Symmes
(288) was born about Jan 1626/27
in Dunstable, Bedforshire, England. He died on Sep 22 1691 in Charlestown, Massachusetts.
Not a great deal is known about Captain William Symmes, not even the origin
of the military title. We know that he received a quit-claim to 3000 acres, jointly
with Edward Wilson, located in the land of Node.
He died intestate and the inventory of his estate, signed by some of his children
and siblings, laments his "having died in an untimely, aggravated and sudden
manner, . . ." Unfortunately, it gives no clue as to the exact nature of
his death. His estate was valued at 624 pounds.
He and his wife were the great great grandparents of Mrs. William Henry Harrison,
and thus the 4th great grandparents of President Benjamin Harrison. He was married
to Mary Chickering.
