EIGHTEENTH GENERATION

226824. Archibald Campbell 2nd Earl of Argyll(336) (114)(201) was born about 1465. He died in 1513. Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll, was designated as Lord High Chancellor of Scotland on Jun 30 1494. That same year he also became master of the household.

In 1499 he was one of a group who were given a lease on the Lordship of the Isles and he was given a commssion of lieutenancy over the lordship and was appointed keeper of the Castle of Tarbert and baillie and governor of the King's lands in Knapdale. Together with the Earl of Huntly he supressed the rebellion of the islanders under Donald Dubh, and shared the lordship with Huntly for the rest of his life. The isles remained calm during his tenancy.

He fought at the Battle of Flodden on Sep 9 1513, in command of the right wing with the Earl of Lennox. It was the precipitous charge of the highlanders who made up Argyll's command, goaded by English taunts, that resulted in one of the greatest military disasters in Scottish history. Thirteen Scottish earls lost their lives at Flodden, including Argyll. He was married to Elizabeth Stewart.

226825. Elizabeth Stewart (114) (201) was living in 1470. She died in 1500. Children were:
