1906. Landgrave Daniel Axtell
(280) died before Jul 31 1684 in
South Carolina. Daniel Axtell was a substantial merchant in London, living in
Stoke Newington, Middlesex. He was persecuted for his non-conformist religious
views. He was one of the organizers of the second fleet that sailed for South
Carolina in 1680 and he was granted three thousand acres by the proprietors.
On Aug 10 1681 he was elected a Landgrave by the proprietors, which entitled
him to an additional 48,000 acres of land.
He came to South Carolina at about this time but died shortly afterwards. In
his will, which is dated Aug 3 1678, he left 500 pounds to each of his seven
children and left the remainder of his estate to his wife.
1907. Rebecca Holland
(281) died after Sep 15 1705 in South Carolina. Dame Rebecca Axtell,
as she was referred to in the recordss, lived after her husband's death at her
plantation named Newington near the present site of the town of Summerville.
On Sep 15 1705 she was granted a thousand acres on the north side of the Ashley
River, adjoining her lands. Children were:
