Augustus Rhodes Sollers (1814-1862)

Biography:

Born May 1, 1814, near Prince Frederick, Calvert County.  Son of James W. Sollers.  Studied law. Admited to the bar, 1836.  Episcopalian.  Married Rebecca D. Somervell, October 6, 1835. Seven children: Sarah E., Somervell, Amelia, Mary, Frances, August Somervell, and Bennett.  Died November 26, 1862, near Prince Frederick, Maryland.  Buried in St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery near Prince Frederick, Maryland.

Practiced law in Prince Frederick, Maryland. House of Delegates, Calvert County, 1837-38; speaker pro tem, 1838. Delegate, 1850 Constitutional Convention, Calvert County. State Director, Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company, 1847-date unknown. U.S. House of Representatives, 7th District, 1841-43 and 1853-55. Presidential elector, 1856 (did not serve).
