Littleton Purnell Dennis (1786-1834)

Biography:

Born July 21, 1786, at "Beverly," on the Pocomoke River, Worcester County, Maryland.  Son of Henry and Ann (Purnell) Dennis.  Received private tutoring and attended Washington Academy, Princess Anne, Maryland; Yale College, 1803; studied law.  Admitted to the bar in Worcester and Somerset counties.  Died April 14, 1834, in Washington, D.C.  Buried at Congressional Cemetery, Washington, D.C.

Practiced law in Princess Anne, Maryland. House of Delegates, Somerset County, 1810, 1815-16 and 1819-21.  Maryland State Senate, Eastern Shore, 1826-33. Presidential elector, 9th District, 1812, 1816, 1820, 1824 and 1828. U.S. House of Representatives, 1st District, 1833 to April 14, 1834.
