Henry Winter Davis (1817-1865)

Biography:

Born August 16, 1817, in Annapolis, Maryland. Son of Rev. Henry Lyon and Jane Brown (Winter) Davis. Attended Wilmington College, 1826-1827; St. John's College, Annapolis, Maryland; Hampden-Sydney College, Virginia; Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio, 1837; University of Virginia Law School. Married 1.) Constance G. Gardiner, October 30, 1845 and 2.) Nancy Morris, January 26, 1857. Died December 30, 1865, in Baltimore, Maryland. Buried at St. Paul's Protestant Episcopal Cemetery. Reinterred in Greenmount Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland.

Practiced law in Alexandia, Virginia and Baltimore, Maryland. Member, United States House of Representatives, 1855-1861 and 1863-1865. His policitical affliations included the American Party, 1854-1861, Constitutional Unionist Party, 1861-1865, and Republican Party, 1865.
