Biography:

Born July 12, 1828, in Annapolis, Maryland. Son of Nicholas and Catherine Musser (Medairy) Brewer. Attended St. John's College, Annapolis, Maryland, 1846; Mt. St. Mary's College. Admitted to Maryland bar, 1851. Married Harriet Carolina Batcheller (1/2/1840-3/22/1906), April 30, 1861. Eight Children: Nicholas Brewer IV (5/17/1862-1/17/1901); Hattie Batcheller Brewer (12/29/1863-6/19/1865); Dr. Charles Brewer (b. 12/27/1865); Hattie Batcheller Brewer (8/4/1867-7/9/1868); Thomas Leverett Brewer (b. 1/24/1871); Sarah Caroline Brewer (9/7/1872-10/8/1872); Catharine Susanna Brewer (11/6/1873-8/24/1814); Elizabeth Morris (Brewer) Gould (7/7/1875-1/9/1935). Died December 9, 1896.

Auditor in equity, Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, 1851-1861. Mayor of Annapolis, 1855-56. Clerk, U.S. Treasury Loan Office, 1861-date unknown. State Law Reporter, Maryland Court of Appeals, 1862-1869. Candidate for Associate Judge of the 5th Judicial Circuit of Maryland, defeated in 1883. Member, Maryland State Senate, representing Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, 1884 and 1886. Member, Board of Visitors and Governors of St. John's College, 1858-date unknown. Member, Maryland Historical Society. President, Anne Arundel County Historical Society.
