Roger Nelson (1759-1815)

Biography:

Born 1759, at "Point of Rocks," in Frederick County, Maryland. Probably son of Arthur and Lucy Nelson. Attended College of William and Mary. Read law with William H. Dorsey. Married Mary Brooke Sim, daughter of Joseph Sim, February 26, 1788. Married Elizabeth Harrison (d. 1855), February 2, 1797. Five known children: John; Madison; Arthur; Emily Catherine Tyler; one additional daughter, name unknown. Died June 7, 1815, in Frederick, Maryland

Commissioned Second Lieutenant, Fifth Maryland Regiment, 1779; First Lieutenant, 1780. Later served in Baylor's regiment of Continental Dragoons, 1782. Brigadier General, Maryland Militia. Practiced law, Frederick Town, Maryland. Served in House of Delegates, Frederick County, 1792-1793, 1800-1802; Senate, Western Shore, 1802 (did not serve), 1803, 1804 (election voided). Senatorial Elector, 1801. U.S. House of Representatives, Fourth Congressional District, 1804-1810. Associate Judge, Fifth Judicial District, 1810-1812.
