Biography:

Born November 15, 1847 in Dorchester County.  Married Ella M. (Magruder) Laird; no children.  Died April 27 1920 at his home in Rockville, Montgomery County.

Lawyer.  Member, Maryland House of Delegates, 1886-93; 1916-17.  Member of Joint Legislative Committee of Investigation on Treasurer Stevenson Archer, 1890.  Compiler, naval roll of the ship Defence, 1896, presented to the Maryland Historical Society.  Nominee, Commissioner of the Land Office, 1896 (failed confirmation).  Speaker of the House of Delegates, 1916.  Member and chair, Public Service Commission, 1910-20.  President, Farmer's Banking and Trust Company, Rockville.
