Biography:

Born August 10, 1800. Son of Reverend George and Augusta Wells. Epsicopalian. Attended St. John's College, Annapolis. Married (1) Jannetta Catherine Sellman; one daughter, (2) Catherine Eliza Harwood; six children, including Dr. George Wells. Died October 21, 1881. Buried at St. Ann's Cemetery, Annapolis, Maryland.

Legislative career:
Maryland House of Delegates, Annapolis, 1827, 1829, and 1834. Member, 1850 Constitutional Convention, Anne Arundel County. Maryland State Senate, Anne Arundel County, 1854. Senate President, 1854.

Other public service and private career:
Commissioner to receiver subscribers to capital stock in the Annapolis and Elk Ridge Railroad, 1836. Director, Farmers Bank of Maryland, 1828-29 and 1831-36; President, Farmers Bank of Maryland, 1836-77. Secretary, Board of Visitors and Governors, St. John's College.
