Gordon T. Atkinson (1846-1942)

Biography:

Born in Somerset County, December 28, 1846.  Son of Levin T. Atkinson and Comfort E. (Quinton) Atkinson.    Attended public schools in Pocomoke City, Maryland; Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania; graduated with a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, 1869.  Married Julia F. Roach (1856-1934) in November 1877; no children.  Resided in Crisfield, Somerset County.  Died at his home on January 14, 1942.  Buried in Pocomoke City Cemetery, Somerset County.

Medical doctor in Marion Station, Somerset County, Maryland, beginning c. 1867.  Moved to Crisfield in 1871 and began a partnership in medical practice with Dr. Samuel A. Robinson; later in partnership with Dr. William Fletcher Hall.  Owner and operator of drug store Hall & Atkinson; later called Hall, Atkinson, and Co.  Town Commissioner for several terms, Crisfield, Maryland.  Co-founder and president, Crisfield Ice Manufacturing Company.  Co-founder and president, Bank of Crisfield.  Maryland comptroller of the treasury, 1904-07.  Member of the board of directors, Spring Grove State Hospital.  Member, Somerset County School Board.  Assistant surgeon, U. S. marine hospital for five years.  Physician for the Pennsylvania Railroad.  Member of the board of stewards, Mount Pleasant Methodist Protestant Church.  Member and past master, Chesapeake Lodge No. 147 of Crisfield.
