Alexander Armstrong (1877-1939)

Biography:

Born in Hagerstown, Washington County, June 28, 1877.  Son of Alexander Armstrong and wife, Elizabeth Key Scott.  Presbyterian.  Attended Princeton University, B.A., 1899; University of Pennyslvania, LL.B., 1903.  Admitted to the bar, 1904.  Married Mary Rebekah Woods on January 25, 1911, in Baltimore; one son, Alexander Armstrong, Jr., born August 20, 1914  Died in Ruxton, Baltimore County, November 20, 1939.  Buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Practiced law in Hagerstown and Baltimiore. Attorney for the City of Hagerstown, 1904-06. State's Attorney for Washington County, 1908-14.  President, Board of Supervisors of Elections of Washington County, 1912-16. Attorney General, 1919-23. Republican candidate for Governor, 1923. President, First National Bank of Hagerstown.  President, The Armstrong Company, Detroit, Michigan.
