St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, Maryland, LL.D., 1875. Studied law under William N. Hayden. Admitted to the bar, 1864. Married Annie E. Mathias on November 10, 1863; children John M., Dallas, Daniel, Charles B., Nannie, Mary Grace, Catharine A., Anne E. Louisa D., and Helen J. Catholic. Died September 10, 1899 in Westminster, Maryland.
