Robert Goldsborough IV (1740-1798)

Biography:

Born November 8, 1740 at "Myrtle Grove," Talbot County.  Son of Robert Goldsborough (c. 1704-1777) and Sarah Nichols Goldsborough (d. 1740).  Attended the University of Pennsylvania, entered August 12, 1757.  Married Mary Emerson Trippe, September 22, 1768.  Children:  a daughter born in 1769, Robert (1771-1771), Robert Henry (1774-1777), Elizabeth (1776-1798; m. Charles Goldsborough), Robert Henry (1779-1836).

Lawyer.  Clerk of Indictments, Talbot County, sworn 1759.  Signer, nonimportation resolution, Annapolis, June 1769.  1st Convention, Talbot County, 1774.  Lower House, Talbot County, 1778-79.  Judge, Maryland General Court, 1784-98.  Constitution Ratification Convention, Talbot County, 1788.  Anglican; member of the St. Michael's Parish Vestry, Talbot County, 1779-1780s.  Visitor, Talbot County School, 1783.  Member, American Philosophical Society, 1791.
