Biography:

BORN: probably in England.
IMMIGRATED: in 1646 as a free adult.
RESIDED in Newtown Hundred, St. Mary's County.
MARRIED first, in 1651/52 Ann, widow of William Thompson. MARRIED second, Elizabeth, who subsequently married both John Jordaine and Cuthbert Scott.
CHILDREN. Died without progeny.

PRIVATE CAREER.
EDUCATION: literate.
RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION: Catholic.
SOCIAL STATUS AND ACTIVITIES: low status on arrival; rose through years of faithful service. 
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILE: planter. 

PUBLIC CAREER.
LEGISLATIVE SERVICE: Lower House, St. Mary's County, 1658, 1659/60 (election voided, but was reelected), 1661, 1662; Upper House, 1664, 1666.
OTHER PROVINCIAL OFFICES mustermaster general, 1661-1668/69; Council, 1664-1668/69; justice, Provincial Court, 1664-1668/69.
LOCAL OFFICES: justice, St. Mary's County, 1658-1663 (quorum, 1661-1663); sheriff, St. Mary's County, 1663-1664.
MILITARY SERVICE lieutenant, 1646-1658; captain, 1658-1660; colonel, 1660-1668/69. 
STANDS ON PUBLIC/PRIVATE ISSUES: strong supporter of the proprietary interests against Ingle's Rebellion and the Parliamentary Commissioners. 

WEALTH DURING LIFETIME.
LAND AT FIRST ELECTION: probably ca. 200 acres, over 650 acres by 1665.

WEALTH AT DEATH.
DIED in March 1668/69.
LAND: 900 acres.
