682 (672 672 Att the Court of Whitehall the 28.th day of September 1693 Present The Queenes Most Excellent Ma.ty
M.r Boscowen Wheras the R.t Hono.ble the Lords of the Comittee of Trade and Plantacons by their Report dated the 15.th instant have represented to ^her^ Ma.ties in Councill That upon recding severall Letters from the Governor and Councill of Maryland to the Comittee Dated the 14.th of October 21.th of December and 11.th of Aprill last together with Articles of Impeachment against S.t Thomas Lawrence Secretary of that province upon which articles the Governor and Councill of Maryland acquaint the Ld.ps they had Committed and Confined S.t Thomas Lawrence and had dismist him from being of the Councill and Judge of the Provinciall Courts There appearing to the Committee noe ground for such proceedings although the Allegations Contained in the said Articles were true But that the proceedings of the Governor and Councill in this matter are illegall and Arbitrary Their Lo.ps are of opinion That the Governor and Councill of Maryland be directed to give S.t Thomas Lawrence Copy of the Articles transmitted against him and that he return his answer unto them to the end their Ma.ties pleasure thereupon may be known And that in the meane time S.t Thomas Lawrence be set at liberty and be restored to his places of Counceller and Judge of the Provinciall Courte and that he receive no molestation or disturbance in the enjoyment of his office of Secretary of Maryland according to their Ma.ties former Order in Councill made of the second of March last and that permission be given in Maryland to examine all persons that shall give evidence in this matter without any hinderance or discountenance to such persons as S.t Thomas Lawrence shall desire to be examined on this behalfe Her Ma.ty in Councill approveing the same is this day pleased to order as it is hereby ordered accordingly That the Governor and Councill of Maryland doe give S.t Thomas Lawrence a Copy of the articles transmitted against him and that he forthwith return to this board his answer in writing to the said Articles to the end their Ma.ties pleasure thereupon may be known and that in the meane time the said S.t Thomas Lawrence beset at liberty and be restored to his places of Councellor and Judge of the Provinciall Court in Maryland And that he receive noe molestation or disturbance in the enjoyment of his Office of Secretary of that province according to his Ma.ties order in Councill of the second of March last And that permission be given in Maryland to examine all persons that shall give Evidence in this matter without any hinderance or discountenance to such persons as the said S.t Thomas Lawrence shall desire to be examined on this behalf Record 29.o Janÿ 1694 Rich Colmge |
