FACES.--___EXPLOSIVES AND DETONATORS KEPT NEAR THE

WORKING FACE SHALL BE STORED IN SEPARATE CLOSED
CONTAINERS OF SUBSTANTIAL NONCONDUCTIVE MATERIAL
LOCATED NOT LESS THAN 15 FEET FROM A RAIL OR POWER
LINE. IF KEPT IN A NICHE IN THE RIB, THE DISTANCE
SHALL BE AT LEAST FIVE FEET IN A LOCATION OUT OF THE
LINE OF BLAST WHERE THEY WILL NOT LIKELY BE SUBJECTED
TO SHOCK.

(3)           KEEPING IN ORIGINAL
CONTAINERS.—EXPLOSIVES AND DETONATORS SHALL BE KEPT
IN THEIR CONTAINERS UNTIL REMOVED FOR USE AT THE
WORKING FACES.

(4)   TOOLS FOR OPENING CONTAINERS.—ONLY
NON METALLIC TOOLS MAY BE USED TO OPEN CONTAINERS
UNDERGROUND.

REVISOR's NOTE: This subsection presently appears
as Article 66C, section 624(a) through (d) ,
inclusive, of the Code. The only changes
made are in style.

(L) BLASTING PRACTICES.—

(1) MANNER OF EXPLODING IN GENERAL.—IN
EVERY MINE, PERMISSIBLE EXPLOSIVES OR PERMISSIBLE
BLASTING DEVICES SHALL BE USED FOR THE BLASTING
OPERATION EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE EXPRESSLY PROVIDED. THE
USE OF PERMISSIBLE EXPLOSIVES SHALL COMPLY WITH THE
FOLLOWING RULES:

RULE 1 -FIRED ONLY WITH ELECTRIC
DETONATORS OF PROPER STRENGTH.

RULE 2 - FIRED WITH PERMISSIBLE BLASTING
UNITS UNLESS BLASTING IS DONE FROM
THE SURFACE.

RULE 3 - BOREHOLES IN COAL MAY NOT BE
DRILLED BEYOND THE BACK OF THE CUT,
NOR INTO THE SOLID RIB, ROOF, OR
FLOOR. SHOOTING OFF THE SOLID IS
PROHIBITED.

RULE 4 - BOREHOLES SHALL BE CLEANED AND
CHECKED TO SEE THAT THEY ARE PLACED
PROPERLY AND ARE OF THE CORRECT
DEPTH, IN RELATION TO THE CUT, BEFORE
BEING CHARGED.
