(G) CALLING ATTENTION TO RULES, EXITS, AND
ESCAPEWAYS.—THE MINE OPERATOR SHALL DIRECT THE
ATTENTION OF EACH WORKER TO THE GENERAL AND SPECIAL
PULES AND REGULATIONS AND TO ANY EXIT AND ESCAPEWAY OF
THE MINE IN WHICH HE WORKS.

derived from Article 66C, section 544 of
the Code. The only changes made are in
style.

7-406. BREAK-THROUGH FOR VENTILATION.—

FOR PURPOSES OF VENTILATION, THE OPERATOR OF ANY
MINE SHALL SEE THAT PROPER BREAK-THROUGHS ARE MADE
BETWEEN ENTRIES OR IN ROOM PILLARS, AT A DISTANCE
APART OF NOT MORE THAN 35 YARDS, NOR LESS THAN 16
YARDS, AS THE DISTRICT MINE INSPECTOR BY WRITTEN
SAFETY ORDER REQUIRES.

Article 66C, section 545 of the Code. The
only changes made are in style.

7-407. MINE OPENINGS AND ESCAPEWAYS.

(A) IN GENERAL.--THERE SHALL BE AT LEAST TWO

TRAVELABLE PASSAGEWAYS, DESIGNATED AS ESCAPEWAYS, FROM
EACH WORKING SECTION TO THE SURFACE, WHETHER THE MINE
OPENINGS ARE SHAFTS, SLOPES, OR DRIFTS. THEY SHALL BE
KEPT IN SAFE CONDITION FOR TRAVEL AND REASONABLY FREE
FROM STANDING WATER AND OTHER OBSTRUCTIONS. ONE OF
THE DESIGNATED ESCAPEWAYS MAY BE THE HAULAGE ROAD,
PROVIDED, THAT ONE OF THE ESCAPEWAYS IS VENTILATED
WITH INTAKE AIR.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection presently appears
as the first paragraph of Article 66C,
section 546 of the Code. The final
sentence is proposed for deletion since
this language was last amended in 1949. It
is assumed provision has been made for a
"second passageway" by now. The only other
changes made are in style.

(B) ESCAPEWAYS AS SHAFTS.—IF A DESIGNATED
