"judge" in §1-101(d). Sec. 1-701 prohibits
decreasing a judge's salary during his term
of office.

Subsection (b) is taken from Art. 26,
§144{a), as amended by Ch. 343, Acts of
1972. This is a statement of legislative
policy which ought to be retained, and is
not necessarily included in the language of
subsection (a).

The salaries of judges, as of July 1, 1973,
were as follows:

Chief judge of the Court of Appeals —
$41,000

Associate judge of the Court of Appeals —
$40,000

Chief judge of Court of Special Appeals —
$38,500

Associate judge of Court of Special Appeals
- $37,500

Judge of a circuit court in any of the
eight judicial circuits — $35,500

Chief judge of the District Court - $37,500

Associate judge * of the District Court —
$30,175

SEC. 1-703. PAY PLAN; AUTOMATIC SALARY INCREASES.

(A)   PAY PLAN.

SEC. 27, ARTICLE 64A OF THE CODE APPLIES TO
JUDICIAL SALARIES, EXCEPT FOR ITS PROVISIONS
AUTHORIZING EMERGENCY SALARY INCREASES WITH APPROVAL
OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS.

(B)   AUTOMATIC SALARY INCREASES.

WHENEVER A GENERAL SALARY INCREASE IS AWARDED TO
STATE EMPLOYEES, EACH JUDGE SHALL RECEIVE THE SAME
PERCENTAGE INCREASE IN HIS SALARY AS AWARDED TO THE
LOWEST STEP OF THE HIGHEST SALARY GRADE FOR CLASSIFIED
EMPLOYEES IN THE STATE SALARY PLAN.
