1436                                       LAWS OF MARYLAND                            [Ch. 6

THE BOARD HAS FIVE MEMBERS WHO:

(1)     ARE LICENSED AND REGISTERED
VETERINARIANS OF THE STATE;

(2)   ARE RESIDENTS OF THE STATE;

(3)    HAVE ENGAGED IN ACTIVE PRACTICE FOR
FIVE YEARS AT SOME TIME;

(4)   ARE IN GOOD STANDING; AND

(5)   ARE APPOINTED AND QUALIFIED.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection presently appears
as Art. 43, §150(a), as amended by Ch. 817,
Acts of 1973. The first sentence is
proposed for deletion because it appears as
new language in subsection (a). In
subsection (b) (1), new language is added to
refer to registered veterinarians because
§2-308 provides that every licensed
veterinarian who practices in the State
shall be registered. Subsection (b) (3) is
revised to indicate that a licensed and
registered veterinarian is eligible if he
has actively practiced an aggregate of five
years. He need not be actively practicing
when he is nominated and the five year
period need not be consecutive years.

(C) APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS.

(1)   THE GOVERNOR SHALL APPOINT THE MEMBERS
OF THE BOARD UPON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE SECRETARY.
EACH APPOINTMENT SHALL BE MADE FROM A LIST OF AT LEAST
THREE NAMES FOR EACH VACANCY SUBMITTED TO THE
GOVERNOR, OR TO THE GOVERNOR-ELECT, BY THE MARYLAND
VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION.

(2)   RECOMMENDATIONS SHALL BE BY VOTE OF A
MAJORITY PRESENT AT A REGULAR OR SPECIAL MEETING OF
THE ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP AND THE PRESIDENT OR
SECRETARY OF THE ASSOCIATION SHALL CERTIFY THE
RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE GOVERNOR.

(3)    THE GOVERNOR SHALL NOTIFY THE
ASSOCIATION PROMPTLY OF ANY VACANCY OCCURRING OTHER
THAN BY EXPIRATION. NOMINATIONS TO FILL THE VACANCY
SHALL BE MADE PURSUANT TO THE PROCEDURES PROVIDED BY
PARAGRAPH (1).
