such labor whose health is not in a condition to allow
the same, and the certificate of the physician to the
detention center or other physician in the county
shall be sufficient to excuse such labor.
Sec. 13—5. Same—Same—Aiding or permitting
escape; penalty.
If any officer or other person, having any inmate
in charge for the performance for such work as
provided for in this chapter, connive at or by his
wilful neglect permit the escape of any such inmate he
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon indictment
and conviction of such offense in the circuit court
for the county, be fined not less than one hundred
dollars nor more than one thousand dollars, or be
confined in the county detention center for not less
than thirty days nor more than six months, and be
subject to the same penalty of work, or both, in the
discretion of the court.
Sec. 13—6. Same—Same—Payment for work.
The director of finance is authorized to pay each
inmate who is assigned to work under the provisions of
this chapter at the end of his term at the rate of
seventy—five cents per day for the actual days worked;
provided, that such payment shall not be made for
required housekeeping duties performed within an
inmate's quarters or confinement area.
Sec. 13—7. Same—Same—Time off for good
behavior.
Inmates who obey the rules and regulations of the
county detention center as prescribed by the
correctional administrator during the period of their
confinement, and when in the correctional
administrator's opinion such behavior is classified as
"good conduct", shall be entitled to time off for good
behavior at the end of their sentence at the rate of
one day for each fourteen days of good conduct during
such sentence.
Sec. 13—8. Same—Duties.
Any correctional administrator and any such
assistants so appointed shall be responsible for the
safekeeping, care and custody of all inmates in the
county detention center from the time they are
