COUNTY LOCAL LAWS

Bill No. 79-72

AN ORDINANCE to amend the Charter of Anne Arundel
County, Maryland, by repealing and re-enacting,
with amendments, Section 601 thereof, Article VI,
"County Board of Appeals," to establish a minimum
time period for membership in a political party
as a requirement for certain appointments to the
Board of Appeals; AND TO SUBMIT SAID AMENDMENT TO
THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY FOR
THEIR ADOPTION OR REJECTION.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL
OF ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MARYLAND, That Section 601,
Article VI, "County Board of Appeals," of the Charter
of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, be and it is hereby
repealed and re—enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

601. COUNTY BOARD OF APPEALS; APPOINTMENT; TERM;
COMPENSATION

There shall be a County Board of Appeals
consisting of five qualified voters of the County
appointed by the County Council by a resolution
adopted within thirty days after the Council takes
office. Appointments shall be for a term coterminous
with that of the Council or until their successors
shall qualify. Vacancies shall be filled for the
unexpired term in the manner specified for the
original appointment. All members of the Board shall
be residents of Anne Arundel County and appointments
shall be made so that not more than three members of
the Board shall be members of the same political
party, AND NEITHER OF THE REMAINING TWO SHALL HAVE
BEEN A MEMBER OF THAT POLITICAL PARTY FOR TWELVE
MONTHS PRIOR TO THEIR APPOINTMENT. Three members of
the Board shall constitute a quorum. The members of
the Board shall be paid at the rate of Twelve Hundred
Dollars ($1,200.00) per year, unless such compensation
be changed as provided in Section 605 of this Article.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That if
any provision of this ordinance or the application
thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid
for any reason, such invalidity shall not affect the
other provisions or any other application, and to this
