RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION TO REPEAL AND RE-ENACT WITH AMENDMENTS
SECTION 16-22 OF ARTICLE III. OF THE CHARTER OF BRUNSWICK,
TITLE "MAYOR", SUBTITLE "ELECTION". (THE CODE OF THE
COUNTY OF FREDERICK, MARYLAND) SO AS TO ELIMINATE THE
REQUIREMENT OF A CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR THAT, AMONG
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS, HE BE ASSESSED WITH REAL PROPERTY
IN THE TOWN TO THE AMOUNT OF FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS
($500.00) AND WHO HAS PAID TAXES THEREON FOR TWO YEARS
PRECEDING HIS ELECTION.

RESOLVED: That Section 16-22 of Article III. of the Charter of Brunswick,
title "Mayor", subtitle "Election" (Code of the County of Frederick, Maryland) be
repealed and re-enacted with amendments so as to read as follows:

The inhabitants of the Town of Brunswick qualified to vote at any municipal
election held therein shall on the first Tuesday in August, 1956, and in every fourth
year thereafter, as hereinbefore provided, elect by a ballot a person of known
integrity, experience and sound judgment, at least thirty (30) years of age, a citizen
of the United States and for not less that two years next preceding the election a
resident of the Town, land assessed with real property in the Town to the amount
of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) and who has paid taxes thereon for two years
preceding his election,] to be Mayor of the Town of Brunswick.

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That a complete and exact copy of the
aforegoing Resolution be posted at the Brunswick City Hall for a period of at least
forty (40) days commencing April 11, 1972; and that a fair summary of the
aforegoing Resolution be published in the Frederick News-Post at least four (4)
times at weekly intervals during the aforesaid forty (40) day period: and the
aforegoing Resolution shall become a part of the the municipal charter of
Brunswick on the fiftieth (50th) day following its adoption unless a petition
requesting a referendum on the matter is submitted to the Mayor and Council of
Brunswick on or before the fortieth (40th) day following the adoption of this
resolution, in compliance with provisions of Article 23A, Section 13 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 edition and its supplements).
