CHARTER AMENDMENT RESOLUTION NO. 1
RESOLUTION of the Mayor and Town Council of Barton, Maryland, adopted
pursuant to the authority contained in Article 11-E of the Constitution of the State
of Maryland, and Section 13 of Article 23A of the Annotated Code of Maryland,
entitled "Municipal-Corporations," titled "A RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE
CHARTER OF THE TOWN OF BARTON (1965 EDITION), BEING
SECTION 19 OF THE TOWN CHARTER, BY REPEALING AND
RE-ENACTING SECTION 19 OF SAID CHARTER, SPECIFY
QUALIFICATIONS OF VOTES."
SECTION 1. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND TOWN
COUNCIL OF BARTON, That Section 19 of the Charter of the Town of Barton,
be and is hereby repealed and re-enacted to read as follows:
"Any person shall be eligible to register as a voter and vote in municipal elections
who is a citizen of the United States, and at least eighteen (18) years of age
at the time of the next municipal election."
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the date of the
passage of this Resolution is April 11th, 1072, and the Amendment of the Charter
of the Town of Barton, hereby enacted, shall become effective on June 1st, 1972,
unless a proper Petition for a Referendum hereon shall be filed as provided by
Section 13 of Article 23A of the Annotated Code of Maryland, and provided a
complete and exact copy of this Resolution shall be continuously posted on the
Town Hall, Barton, Maryland, until March 21st, 1972, and provided further that a
fair summary of the proposed amendment shall be published in a newspaper of
general circulation in the Town of Barton, once in each of the weeks of April 20,
27, May 4, 11 and 18, 1972.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Mayor of the
Town of Barton is hereby specifically directed to carry out the provisions of
Section 2 hereof regarding the giving of notice by posting and publication of
this Resolution approving the same, and, as evidence of said compliance, the Town
Clerk shall cause to be affixed to the Charter Amendment Resolution a certificate
