Reference of Maryland a clear certified copy of this Resolution showing the
number of Aldermen voting for and against it and a report on the votes cast for or
against the amendment hereby enacted at any referendum thereon and the date of
such referendum.
The above Charter Amendment was enacted by the foregoing Resolution which
was passed at a regular meeting of the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of
Annapolis, June 12, 1972, eight (8) Aldermen voting in the affirmative and zero (0)
Aldermen voting in the negative, and the said Resolution becomes effective in
accordance with law on the 1st day of August, 1972.

SECTION 2 OF THE CITY CHARTER
Resolution of the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis, adopted
pursuant to the authority of Article 11-E of the Constitution of the State of
Maryland and Article 23-A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition -
1966 Replacement Volume), titled "Corporations - Municipal", to repeal and
re-enact Section 2 of the Charter of the City of Annapolis for the purpose of
providing for appointment of the City Attorney and Assistant City Attorney,
qualifications, non voting status, salary, duties, and all matters relating thereto.
SECTION I. BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of
Annapolis that Section 2 of the Charter of the City of Annapolis be repealed and
re-enacted to read as follows:
Sec. 2. City attorney; assistant city
attorney.
The Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis shall select and appoint a
member of the bar of Anne Arundel County, a resident of the City of Annapolis to
be the city attorney. The city attorney shall be an officer of the city and shall only
be subject to removal from office for just cause. He shall not be entitled to vote
with the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis. The salary of the city
attorney shall be established each year in the annual budget of the Mayor and
Aldermen. Nothing shall prevent the city attorney from maintaining a private
practice of law.
The city attorney, with advice and consent of the Mayor and Aldermen, shall
select and appoint a member of the bar of Anne Arundel County, a resident of the
City of Annapolis, to be assistant city attorney who shall serve at the pleasure of
the city attorney and the Mayor and Aldermen. The assistant city attorney shall
not be entitled to vote with the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis.
The salary of the assistant city attorney shall be established each year in the
annual budget of the Mayor and Aldermen. He shall act under the direction of the
city attorney and shall assist him in the law business of the city when called upon
by the city attorney to do so. Nothing shall prevent the assistant city attorney from
maintaining a private practice of law.
