1898                                                   VETOES

person charged with the care of a child 7 years or younger to leave the child

confined in a dwelling, building or enclosure unless then, is a reliable person in
attendance to protect the child from certain dangers and providing penalties for
violations thereof.

June 1, 1973.

Honorable William S. James

President of the Senate

State House

Annapolis, Maryland 21404

Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17, of the Maryland Constitution, I have
today vetoed Senate Bill 435.

This bill would prohibit any person in Anne Arundel County charged with the
care of a child seven or under from leaving that child unattended under certain
circumstances.

House Bill 568, which was enacted by the General Assembly, and signed by me
on May 21, 1973, accomplishes the same purpose.

Therefore, it is unnecessary for me to sign Senate Bill 435.

Sincerely,

/s/ Marvin Mandel
Governor

June 1, 1973.

Honorable William S. James

President of the Senate

State House

Annapolis, Maryland 21404

Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17, of the Maryland Constitution, I have
today vetoed Senate Bill 441.

This bill increases the salaries of the supervisors of assessments in Calvert and
St. Mary's Counties.

House Bill 531, which was enacted by the General Assembly and signed by me
on May 24, 1973, generally provides for the State assumption of the property
assessment function and the transfer of supervisors of assessments to State
employment.
