MARVIN MANDEL, Governor 1881
WHEREAS, While we recognize that these acts of cruelty, barbarism, hatred
and despair seem to be with us forever and have seeped into our daily lives, we
also recognize that it would be refreshing to get a break from this bombardment of
bad news; and
WHEREAS, While we firmly believe in freedom of the press, and while we
have no intention to dictate to the news media, we feel that such a break from all
the distressing news could be provided, in part, by the news media if they would
take the effort to devote a column or a part of a daily newspaper or daily
television or radio broadcast to news concerned with the good, happy news and
deeds and inspirational activities of others to remind us that all is not bad with the
world; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
members of the General Assembly urge the various newspapers, television and
radio stations in Maryland to consider adopting a policy of instituting a daily
column or portion of a news broadcast devoted to "good" news to provide a break
for us from all of the "bad" news that has become a part of our lives; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State send copies of this resolution to the
editor of every newspaper of general circulation in the State and to the owner
and/or operator of every radio and television station in the State.
Approved May 21, 1973.
