(House Joint Resolution 70)

House Joint Resolution providing that a Commission be appointed to study and
make recommendations in regard to certain salaries of certain officials in
Charles County and concerning the Commission.

WHEREAS, In recent past years overwhelming change has occurred in areas of
technology, environment and society requiring more complex and sophisticated
interaction between citizens and their government; and

WHEREAS, The Legislative representatives of Charles County are aware of
these developments; and

WHEREAS, The Legislative representatives of Charles County recognize that
remuneration of various elected officials in Charles County should be
commensurate with the increased duties and responsibilities of the elected officials
of Charles County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That a
Commission be appointed to hold as many meetings as necessary to review and
recommend future salaries in Charles County of the following elected officials:

County Commissioners

County Treasurer

Sheriff

Judges of the Orphan's Court

State's Attorney; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Commission consist of six members, three to be
appointed by the County Commissioners and three to be appointed by the
members of the General Assembly from Charles County; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Commission's recommendations be reported to the
Charles County legislators before December 1, 1973; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be mailed to the above listed
elected officials of Charles County at the County Seat in LaPlata, Maryland.
