CHAPTER 874
(House Bill 1509)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 87(b) and (c) of the
Code of Public Local Laws of St. Mary's County (1965 Edition, being Article
19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "St. Mary's County,"
subtitle "Hucksters and Peddlers," to add gypsies, fortune tellers and magazine
sellers to those requiring a license, to increase the cost of a license, and to
exempt persons selling locally grown produce at roadside stands from a license
requirement.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 87(b) and (c) of the Code of Public Local Laws of
St. Mary's County (1965 Edition, being Article 19 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "St. Mary's County," subtitle "Hucksters and Peddlers,"
be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

87.

(b)  The sheriff shall prepare and have available application forms for a peddler's
GYPSY'S, FORTUNE TELLER'S AND MAGAZINE SELLER'S license,

containing such provisions and information as in the opinion of the sheriff may be
necessary to keep a proper and complete listing of the persons in St. Mary's
County who are engaged in [this occupation] THESE OCCUPATIONS from
time to time. The license shall be issued upon application at a cost of (two dollars
($2.00)] TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS ($25.00) for each year; and the cost shall
not be prorated for portions of a year. The license year begins as of January 1.

(c)   Nothing in this section shall be construed or used to apply to any person
who is going from door-to-door in any activity or enterprise which is conducted for
and on behalf of any nonprofit, charitable, or eleemosynary agency or
organization; or to any person who is going from door-to-door , OR UTILIZING
ROADSIDE STANDS, in the sale of farm produce or seafood of any kind which
he has produced or taken within the limits of St. Mary's County; or to any person
who is selling or delivering newspapers.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

CHAPTER 875
(House Bill 1510)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 70 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of St. Mary's County (1965 Edition and 1972 Supplement,
being Article 19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "St.
Mary's County," subtitle "Electrical Examiners," to change the name Middle
Department Rating Association, Middle Division, to Middle Department
Inspection Agency or Tri State Underwriters Incorporated.
