effect July 1, 1973.

(Senate Bill 1225)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 492 of Article 27 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1972
Supplement), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "I. Crimes and
Punishments," subheading "Sabbath Breaking," and to repeal Sections 511,
512, 513, and 514 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971
Replacement Volume), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "I. Crimes and
Punishments," subheading "Sabbath Breaking," and to repeal and re-enact,
with amendments, Sections 521(h), 522, 534K, and 534M of Article 27 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1972
Supplement), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "I. Crimes and
Punishments," subheading "Sabbath Breaking," and to add new Section 534N
to Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1972 Replacement Volume),
title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "I. Crimes and Punishments,"
subheading "Sabbath Breaking," to follow immediately after Section 534M
thereof, to repeal certain sections of Article 27 concerning Sabbath activities in
Harford County, to include Harford County in other sections and subsections
concerning Sabbath-related activities and to enact a new section exclusively
concerning Sabbath activities in Harford County and providing powers to the
State's Attorney of Harford County in case of violations of the section, and
providing penalties upon conviction thereof, and generally relating to laws
governing Sabbath activities and conduct in Harford County.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 492 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1972 Supplement), title "Crimes and
Punishments," subtitle "I. Crimes and Punishments," subheading "Sabbath
Breaking," is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, and that Sections
511, 512, 513, and 514 of the same Article, code, title, subtitle and subheading are
hereby repealed, and that Sections 521(h), 522, 534K, and 534M of the same
Article, code, title, subtitle and subheading are hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, and that new Section 534N is hereby added to the same Article,
code, title, subtitle and subheading, to follow immediately after Section 534M
thereof, and all to read as follows:

492.

No person whatsoever shall work or do any bodily labor on the Lord's day,
commonly called Sunday; and no person having children or servants shall
command, or wittingly or willingly suffer any of them to do any manner of work
or labor on the Lord's day (works of necessity and charity always excepted), nor
shall suffer or permit any children or servants to profane the Lord's day by
gaming, fishing, fowling, hunting, or unlawful pastime or recreation; and every
person transgressing this section and being hereof convicted shall forfeit five
dollars, which, if the fine is imposed by a circuit court of any county or the
Criminal Court of Baltimore, shall be applied to the use of the county or city as
