CHAPTER 723
(Senate Bill 902)
AN ACT to empower and authorize the County Commissioners of Carroll
County, notwithstanding Chapter 521 of the Laws of 1931 and in the same
manner as they were authorized by Chapter 705 of the Laws of 1967, to
construct a reservoir or impoundment on the Gillis Falls Tributary of the South
Branch of the Patapsco River in Carroll County for certain purposes and
subject to certain conditions.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That notwithstanding any provisions of Chapter 521 of the Laws
of 1931 and in the same manner as the provisions of Chapter 705 of the Laws of
1967, the County Commissioners of Carroll County are hereby authorized and
empowered to construct a reservoir or impoundment on the Gillis Falls Tributary
of the South Branch of the Patapsco River in Carroll County for the use of flood
control, water supply or recreational purposes. However, Carroll County must
release water from the dam or impoundment in the required quantities to maintain
a minimum stream flow in an amount determined by the City of Baltimore as
necessary to insure the continuance of the contribution of the tributary to the
Patapsco River in the same amount as prior to the building of the dam or
impoundment.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 9I(b) of Article 64A of
the Annotated Code of Maryland ([[1972 Replacement Volume and]] 1972
Supplement), title "Merit System," to [[provide that no employee made part of
the State classified service under the provisions of this section, shall become a
permanent employee unless his prior period of service would have qualified him
had he been serving in State service during the same period of service; provided,
however, that this prior period of service shall be credited toward the
probationary period required by the Merit System Law.]] change the
probationary status and service of certain probation employees in Prince
George's County and Baltimore City who were transferred to State
employment.
