OFFICE OF ANY MEMBER, OFFICER, OR EMPLOYEE OF THE
LEGISLATURE OR THE OFFICE OF ANY COMMITTEE OF THE
LEGISLATURE OR EITHER HOUSE THEREOF, IS LOCATED. THIS
SECTION DOES NOT APPLY TO POLICE OFFICERS OR OFFICERS OF
ANY OTHER STATE OR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CARRYING
OUT OFFICIAL DUTIES, OR TO ANY PERSONS SUMMONED BY AN
OFFICER TO ASSIST IN MAKING ARRESTS OR PRESERVING THE
PEACE.

[[99]] 98. LEGISLATIVE SECURITY FORCE.

THE MEMBERS OF THE MARYLAND STATE POLICE ASSIGNED
FOR DUTY WITH THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY SHALL BE THE
LEGISLATIVE SECURITY FORCE RESPONSIBLE FOR ORDERLY
MAINTENANCE OF THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESSES. THE SECURITY
FORCE IS UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE PRESIDING OFFICERS OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

[[100]] 99. PENALTY.

A VIOLATION OF ANY OF THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SUBTITLE IS
A MISDEMEANOR PUNISHABLE BY IMPRISONMENT FOR A PERIOD
NOT TO EXCEED [[THIRTY DAYS]] ONE YEAR, OR BY A FINE NOT
TO EXCEED ONE [[HUNDRED]] THOUSAND DOLLARS, OR BOTH.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

CHAPTER 664
(Senate Bill 225)

AN ACT to add new Section 19A to Article 23A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume and 1972 Supplement), title
"Corporations--Municipal," subtitle "Home Rule," to follow immediately after
Section 19 thereof and to be under the new subtitle "Merger of Municipal
Corporations," authorizing two or more municipal corporations to unite to form
one municipal corporation under certain conditions, establishing the procedures
and requirements for this union, making provisions for certain contingencies in
any projected union , requiring prior approval of the governing body of the
county in which the municipal corporations are situated, imposing certain duties
on the county commissioners or county council where the union takes place, and
relating generally to the possible union of municipal corporations in this State.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 19A be and it is hereby added to Article 23A of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume and 1972
Supplement), title "Corporations-Municipal," subtitle "Home Rule," to follow
immediately after Section 19 thereof and to be under the new subtitle "Merger of
Municipal Corporations," and to read as follows:
