spouse's benefit, and expense or travel allowances other than reim-
bursable expenses actually incurred in connection with the duties
of his office which shall be paid by the State and reimbursed to the
State by the political subdivision. REIMBURSABLE EXPENSES
ACTUALLY INCURRED IN CONNECTION WITH THE DUTIES
OF A JUDGE OF THE CIRCUIT COURTS OF THE SEVERAL
COUNTIES AND THE SUPREME BENCH OF BALTIMORE
CITY SHALL BE PAID BY THE STATE AND REIMBURSED
BY THE POLITICAL SUBDIVISIONS; PROVIDED THAT THE
CHIEF JUDGE OF THE COURT OF APPEALS MAY AUTHOR-
IZE THESE EXPENSES TO BE REIMBURSED DIRECTLY BY
THE POLITICAL SUBDIVISION, WHEN SUCH EXPENSES
HAVE FIRST BEEN APPROVED BY THE ADMINISTRATIVE
OFFICE OF THE COURTS.

144.

(a) Each judge of the District Court shall have been a citizen
of Maryland and a member of the bar of the State for at least
five (5) years immediately prior to his appointment and shall be
a resident of the county or district for which he is a judge. Each
District Court judge shall be paid [$25,925 per annum] a salary in
accordance with Section 47 of this Article.
The chief judge OF
THE DISTRICT COURT, DURING THE PERIOD HE SERVES
AS CHIEF JUDGE, shall receive additional annual salary in an
amount which shall make his aggregate annual salary, while serv-
ing as chief judge, equivalent to the annual salary then payable to
an associate judge of the Court of Special Appeals. Each judge
shall likewise be entitled to mileage, at the rate established for State
employees for travel outside his district on court business, and in
multiple-county districts, for travel incurred in sitting in different
counties within the district and shall likewise be entitled to an
expense account for meals and lodging when traveling on court busi-
ness.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

CHAPTER 344
(House Bill 346)

AN ACT to authorize the creation of a State debt in the aggregate
amount of Ten Million Dollars ($10,000,000), the proceeds thereof
to be used to supplement the financing of the construction of
public junior or community college buildings and facilities by
each of the counties in this State and the Mayor and City Council
of Baltimore, and to supplement the financing of the acquisition of
such real estate or interests in lands as may be necessary in con-
nection therewith by each of the counties and the Mayor and
City Council of Baltimore, and providing generally for the
issue and sale of bonds evidencing such loan.
