was enacted by Chapter 403 of the Acts of 1955, amending the laws
concerning the operation of school buses in Talbot County for chil-
dren who attend schools which do not receive State aid, and
clarifying the provisions of this law.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 501A of Article 21 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Talbot County," subtitle "Schools,"
as said section was enacted by Chapter 403 of the Acts of 1955, be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

501A.

All children, who are of public school age, who attend schools
in Talbot County which do not receive State aid and who reside on or
along or near to the public highways of Talbot County, on which
there is [now or hereafter] operated a public school bus or con-
veyance provided by the Board of Education of Talbot County for
transporting children to and from the public schools of Talbot County,
shall receive, subject to the approval of the County Commissioners,
transportation on such buses or conveyances; such transportation,
upon the approval of the County Commissioners, shall be provided for
them by the Board of Education of Talbot County from a point on the
said public highway nearest or most accessible to their respective
homes to [and from the public school being served by such bus or
buses, (it being the intention that the County Commissioners shall
not authorize transportation for children attending a private school
between the public school and the private school)] a point on the
public highway nearest or most accessible to their respective schools.
This transportation, subject to the approval of the County Commis-
sioners, shall be provided by the Board of Education as aforesaid, for
all the children attending schools described herein, upon the same
terms and conditions [as now are or as may hereafter be] estab-
lished by the Board of Education of Talbot County for children attend-
ing public schools; provided that the County Commissioners of Talbot
County make such provisions in their budget by appropriate tax
levy as will be necessary to defray the cost of such transportation,
which authority is hereby granted to said Commissioners so that
[,] they may, in their discretion, provide such transportation as is
herein authorized.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.
