124. Adoption by surveyors; noting variations from.

It shall be the duty of each and every surveyor surveying land in
any county of this State that shall adopt the provisions of § 123 to
test and note the actual variation of his compass from the aforesaid
true meridian line at least once in every year, and to deposit a copy
of the same, with the date and time of such test, accompanying the
same with an affidavit verifying its correctness, with the clerk of the
county in which he may reside, to be by him recorded in a book kept
for that purpose, and every surveyor neglecting or refusing to comply
with the provisions of this section shall be liable to a penalty of
fifty dollars, to be recovered with costs as debts of like character are
recovered [before any justice of the peace] in the District Court
sitting
in the county, to be applied to such county uses as the
county commissioners may direct.

154. Same—Injuring or destroying.

Any person defacing, injuring or destroying any sign or finger
board erected or maintained under § 153 shall be subject, upon con-
viction, [before any justice of the peace or by the circuit court for
any of the counties,] to a fine of not more than fifty dollars for each
offense, or confinement in the county jail for not less than ten days
nor more than thirty days, or both fine and imprisonment.

Section 23. And be it further enacted, That Section 5(I) of Article
25A, Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume), title
"Chartered Counties of Maryland," subtitle "Express Powers," be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

5. Enumeration

(I) Court [and] Records

To provide for recording, indexing and keeping indexed all records
in the office of the clerk of the court, register of wills and of the records
of the commissioners and county council to the extent that such mat-
ters are not provided for by general law[; to provide for designating
justices of the peace who may constitute a county court, the keeping
of its records, and to fix the compensation of all judges thereof, and
all officials connected therewith, and to require an accounting to the
county for all fees collected in connection therewith; and to fix official
bonds and regulate fees of the remaining justices in the county].

Section 24. And be it further enacted, That Sections 14, 20, 30A,
76, 125(c), 125A, 128A, 139, 148(a), 149(b), 149(c), 149 (d), 150(a),
150(b), 151(a), and 154(c), 156(A) AND 156(C) of Article 26,
Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume, and,
as to Sections 30A, 76, 125(c) and 125A, 139, 145(f), 148(a),
149(b), 149(c), 150(a), 150(b), 151(a), and 154(c), 156(A) AND
156(C), 1971 Supplement), title "Courts," subtitles, respectively,
"Appointment of Substitute Surveyor," "Judgments," "Circuit
Courts for the Counties—Court Stenographers," "Juvenile Causes in
Montgomery County," "Municipal Court of Baltimore City," and
"District Courts," be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
