2826                            County Local Laws

(b)    Design. Coded fire alarm boxes shall be wound automati-
cally when the lever is pulled to send an alarm. Pre-wound boxes
will not be approved, except that transmitter stations used in con-
junction with automatic heat detectors may be pre-wound. Coded
local fire alarm boxes shall be provided with a code mechanism sending
not less than four complete rounds of a definite code of signals to
indicate the floor or section in which it is located. The box shall be so
designed that if once started the proper transmission of a complete
set of signals cannot be interfered with by again manipulating the
starting device of that box. Non-interference boxes of the shunt type
are acceptable.

(c)    Enclosure. Coded fire alarm boxes shall have the mecha-
nism enclosed in a dust-tight metal compartment or case.

(d)    Code designation. The code number of each coded fire
alarm box shall be plainly marked on the case, visible from the front
after installation, by numbers either raised or depressed in the casting
or on a permanently secured metal plate. Painting or stenciling on the
surface will not be approved. Coded local fire alarm boxes shall be
provided with a code mechanism and be so located that the code
signals will indicate the location of the sending station in accordance
with the following schedule:
