2784                            County Local Laws

(E)    Maximum grades for arterial roads and primary resi-
dential roads shall be limited to a maximum of 8%, except where
short theoretical tangent projections for vertical curves require a
greater rate.

(F)    Maximum grades for secondary residential roads shall
not exceed 10%, except where short theoretical projections for ver-
tical curves require a greater rate.

(FF) Maximum grades for tertiary residential roads shall
not exceed the following:

(1)    where parking abuts the road—10%;

(2)    in any case—14%;

(3)    elsewhere, for a length of not more than 200' (but
not within 200' of a secondary or primary residential road nor within
250' of a road of arterial or higher classification)—12%.

(G)    Sag vertical curves shall be used at all changes in grade
where the algebraic difference is positive. The minimum length curve
shall be based on the following headlight sight distances:

(1)    For secondary residential roads a headlight sight dis-
tance of 150' will be required.

(2)    For primary residential roads a headlight sight dis-
tance of 200' will be required.

(3)    For arterial roads a headlight sight distance of 200'
will be required.

(H) Tertiary roads.

(1)    Cul-de-sac for tertiary roads. The end of a tertiary
road shall be a cul-de-sac of appropriate shape using the figure of a
square to determine an allowable crossfall of not more than 6%
in either direction. No turning radius shall be less than 15', measured
from the inside curb.

(2)    Tertiary road intersections. Wherever a tertiary road
intersects with a road of a higher category the turning radius of the
higher category shall apply.

(3)    Perpendicular parking. Where perpendicular parking
abuts a tertiary residential road, the parking areas shall be separated
from the roadway by a combination depressed concrete curb and gut-
ter. No such parking area shall be more than 72' in length and there
shall be an interval of at least 10' between any two such parking areas.

Sec. 5. The County Council declares an emergency exists as to
the need of the enactment of this legislation and the above shall
become effective immediately upon adoption.

Effective: September 1, 1970
