OR STATEMENT OF ANY MAKER OR BUYER SHALL CONSTI-
TUTE A VALID WAIVER OF ANY BENEFIT, DEFENSE OR
PROTECTION UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION,
AND NO INSTRUMENT OR AGREEMENT SHALL CONTAIN
ANY TERM, CONDITION OR CLAUSE WHICH IS CONTRARY
TO THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall apply to
all such assignments which occur on or after July 1, 1972.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 77(a) of
the Code of Public Local Laws of St. Mary's County (1971 Supple-
ment, being Article 19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land), title "St. Mary's County," subtitle "Fire Companies," to pro-
vide that the County Commissioners of St. Mary's County shall pay
annually to the active rescue squads an amount they shall determine
and generally relating thereto.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 77(a) of the Code of Public Local Laws of St. Mary's
County (1971 Supplement, being Article 19 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "St. Mary's County," subtitle "Fire Com-
panies," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

77.

(a) The County Commissioners are hereby authorized to pay an-
nually from the general county funds [a base sum not to exceed two
thousand dollars ($2,000) each,] to [so many of] the active rescue
squads in St. Mary's County as they shall determine.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.
