CHAPTER 677
(Senate Bill 528)

AN ACT to add new Section 697 to Article 66C of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1970 Replacement Volume), title "Natural
Resources," subtitle "Oysters and Clams," to follow immediately
after Section 696 thereof and to relate generally to the right of any
resident of the State of Maryland to take or catch oysters or clams
in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries and pro-
viding that all laws inconsistent with this Section are repealed
to the extent of their inconsistency.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 697 be and it is hereby added to Article 66C of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Replacement Volume), title
"Natural Resources," subtitle "Oysters and Clams," to follow imme-
diately after Section 696 thereof and to read as follows:

697.

In the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, any resi-
dent of the State of Maryland may take or catch oysters or clams on
any area from which the taking or catching of oysters or clams is
permitted under any provision of this subtitle. This section applies
to the taking or catching of oysters or clams by rakes, tongs, patent
tongs, dredges, or handscrapes, as defined in this subtitle, and by
no
other means, as permitted
BY" LAW for the particular area; and
this section applies also to the taking or catching of clams by hydrau-
lic or mechanical dredges or rigs, as permitted for the particular
area. This section shall not be construed or applied to affect or
change any laws in this subtitle or elsewhere in the laws of this
State concerning the licensing or regulations of the taking or catch-
ing of oysters or clams, except as in this section specifically provided.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That all laws or parts of laws
inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are repealed to the extent
of their inconsistency.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

CHAPTER 678
(Senate Bill 596)

AN ACT to withdraw and repeal Chapter 355 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of 1971, withdrawing and repealing certain
proposed amendments to Sections 1 and 2 of Article I of the
Constitution of Maryland, title "Elective Franchise," which had
proposed a change in the minimum age for voting at elections
held in the State of Maryland, and a change in the age by which
a person can be disqualified from voting for committing certain
crimes.
