person in advance. Any law enforcement officers so acting shall be
considered as carrying out their official duty.]
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

(Senate Bill 138)
AN ACT to add new Section 537A to Article 43 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume), title "Health,"
subtitle "Cosmetologists," to follow immediately after Section 537
thereof to permit cosmetology students in the Baltimore City
STATE public schools to accept employment in private beauty
salons in Baltimore City under certain conditions, and to generally
relate thereto.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 537A be and it is hereby added to Article 43 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume), title
"Health," subtitle "Cosmetologists," to follow immediately after
Section 537 thereof and to read as follows:
537A.
(a) Notwithstanding the provisions of any other Section of this
Article, students in courses of study of cosmetology in the public
schools of Baltimore City THE STATE, WHO HAVE COMPLETED
1,000 HOURS OF STUDY IN COSMETOLOGY may accept employ-
ment IN THE DUTIES OF APPRENTICES UNDER THE
DIRECT SUPERVISION OF LICENSED BEAUTY SHOP MAN-
AGERS for a salary in privately-owned beauty salons in Baltimore
City THE STATE.
(b) Prior to his or her acceptance of employment the student of
cosmetology must secure the written approval of his or her public
school instructor OR WORK-STUDY COORDINATOR for employ-
ment in the specific beauty salon. The written permission shall not
constitute the instructor's approval to practice cosmetology in any
other beauty salon in Baltimore City.
(c) At all times while employed in a privately-owned beauty salon
in Baltimore City, the cosmetology student shall prominently display
some form of notice to the clients of that beauty salon of his or her
status as a student.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.
