AN ACT to add new Sections 791 to 808 to Article 43 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1971 Supple-
ment), title "Health," to follow immediately after Section 790
thereof and to be under the new subtitle "Audiologists and Speech
Pathologists," placing the registration and regulation of persons
providing audiological and speech pathology services under the
Boards of Examiners for Audiologists and Speech Pathologists in
the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, making general
provisions for the regulation of persons and agencies furnishing
audiological and speech pathology services in this State, and re-
lating generally to the provision of audiological and speech
pathology services.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Sections 791 to 808 be and they are hereby added to
Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement
Volume and 1971 Supplement), title "Health," to follow immediately
after Section 790 thereof, to be under the new subtitle "Audiolo-
gists and Speech Pathologists," and to read as follows:
791. Audiologists and Speech Pathologists
Definitions. As used in this subtitle, unless the context otherwise
requires:
(1) "Board" means the Board of Examiners for Audiologists
or the Board of Examiners for Speech Pathologists, or both.
(2) "Certificate of Registration" includes a temporary certifi-
cate of registration.
(3) "Person" means any individual, organization, or corporate
body, except that only individuals can be licensed under this sub-
title.
(4) "Audiologist" means any person who, for a fee, represents
himself to the public by title or by description of services, methods
or procedures as one who evaluates, examines, directs, instructs, or
counsels persons suffering from disorders or conditions affecting
hearing or assists persons in the perception of sound. A person is
deemed to be an audiologist if he provides such services to the public
under any title incorporating the terms "audiology" "audiologist,"
"audiological" "hearing clinic," "hearing clinician" "hearing or
aural rehabilitation," "hearing specialist."
(5) "Speech Pathologist" means any person who, for a fee, rep-
resents himself to the public by title or by description of services,
methods, or procedures as one who evaluates, examines, instructs,
or counsels persons suffering from conditions or disorders affecting
speech and language. A person is deemed to be a speech pathologist
if he offers such services under any title incorporating the words
"speech pathology," "speech correction," "speech correctionist,"
"speech therapy," "speech therapist," "speech clinic," "speech clini-
cian," "logopedist," "communication disorders," "communicolo-
