a member of the General Assembly must return his set of the Code
at the end of his tenure of office and providing for keeping this
code up to date during his tenure as a member.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 88 of Article 40 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1971 Replacement Volume and 1971 Supplement), title "General
Assembly," subtitle "Members to Be Furnished Code," be and the
same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

88.

Upon request each member of the House of Delegates or Senate of
Maryland shall be provided, out of State funds, a set of the Annotated
Code of Maryland for his personal use [so long as he remains a
member; such Code] and the individual volumes [thereof] shall be
kept up to date [at all times] at State expense[.] during the
individual member's tenure in the General Assembly.
[At the end of
the member's tenure in the General Assembly, he shall return the
set of the Code, complete and with the latest supplements or replace-
ment volumes, to the Legislative Accounting Office, provided that if
the member's set of the Code has been destroyed or lost by any
circumstance beyond his control, he shall not be required to reimburse
the Legislative Accounting Office upon the submission of adequate
proof of the loss or destruction.]

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

CHAPTER 389
(Senate Bill 126)

AN ACT to add new Section 59A to Article 77 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume), title "Public Edu-
cation," subtitle "Chapter 5. Superintendent of Schools," to follow
immediately after Section 59 thereof, authorizing the county
superintendent of schools to administer oaths and affirmation, to
examine witnesses under oath and to have the examination reduced
to writing, and
providing for the offense of perjury in case of false
testimony of such witnesses. AFFIRMATIONS TO WITNESSES
IN ALL APPEALS OR CASES COMING BEFORE THE LOCAL
BOARD OF EDUCATION.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 59A be and it is hereby added to Article 77 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume), title,
"Public Education," subtitle "Chapter 5. Superintendent of Schools,"
to follow immediately after Section 59 thereof, and to read as follows:
