FITS IS PAID PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION
198(6) (A) OF THIS ARTICLE, THE SUPPLEMENTARY PAY-
MENTS AUTHORIZED BY THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SEC-
TION SHALL BE PAID TO THE TREASURER OF THE PARTIC-
ULAR CITY OR COUNTY OPERATING SUCH LOCAL RETIRE-
MENT OR PENSION SYSTEM; PROVIDED, FURTHER, THAT
THE TOTAL RETIREMENT BENEFITS, INCLUDING ANY
AND ALL SUPPLEMENTATIONS THERETO, PAID OR DIS-
TRIBUTED BY ANY SUCH LOCAL RETIREMENT OR PEN-
SION SYSTEM SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN IS PROVIDED IN
THIS ARTICLE FOR ANY PERSON WITH SIMILAR SERVICE
AND WAGE RECORDS; AND PROVIDED, FURTHER, THAT
NOTHING CONTAINED IN THIS SUBSECTION SHALL OPER-
ATE TO REDUCE THE TOTAL RETIREMENT BENEFIT
OR BENEFITS, INCLUDING ANY SUCH SUPPLEMENTA-
TIONS THERETO, BEING PAID AS OF JUNE 30, 1962, TO ANY
RETIRED INDIVIDUAL; AND PROVIDED, FURTHER, THAT
THE TOTAL PAYMENTS MADE BY THE STATE UNDER THE
PROVISIONS OF THIS SUBSECTION TO THE TREASURER
OF ANY PARTICULAR CITY OR COUNTY OPERATING ANY
SUCH LOCAL RETIREMENT OR PENSION SYSTEM SHALL BE
USED ONLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF MAKING PAYMENT TO
RETIRED INDIVIDUALS AND SHALL NOT BE USED FOR ANY
OTHER PURPOSE.
(H) WHEN DETERMINING THE AMOUNT OF SUPPLE-
MENTARY PAYMENTS, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES SHALL
NOT CONSIDER ANY ADDITIONAL VOLUNTARY CONTRI-
BUTIONS BY ANY TEACHER TO HIS ANNUITY SAVINGS
ACCOUNT.
(I) ANY TEACHER WHO HAS LESS THAN THIRTY (30)
YEARS OF SERVICE, AND WHO FILES FOR A DEFERRED
RETIREMENT ALLOWANCE, SHALL NOT BE ENTITLED TO
RECEIVE A SUPPLEMENTARY PENSION BENEFIT.
SEC. 7. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT SECTIONS
31A AND 56(7) OF SAID ARTICLE 88B OF THE CODE, SUB-
TITLES RESPECTIVELY "PENSIONS" AND "STATE POLICE
RETIREMENT SYSTEM", BE AND THEY ARE HEREBY RE-
PEALED AND RE-ENACTED, WITH AMENDMENTS TO READ
AS FOLLOWS:
31A.
(A) THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE RETIREMENT
AND PENSION SYSTEM OF THE MARYLAND STATE POLICE
IS HEREBY AUTHORIZED AND DIRECTED, SUBJECT TO THE
ANNUAL APPROPRIATION OF THE NECESSARY FUNDS
AND IN ADDITION TO THOSE PROVIDED IN ACCORDANCE
WITH AND IN THE SAME MANNER AS THAT PROVIDED IN
SECTION 31, AND SUBJECT TO THE CONDITIONS HEREIN-
AFTER PROVIDED, TO MAKE A SUPPLEMENTARY PAY-
MENT TO ANY BENEFICIARY [, OR MEMBER WHO MAY
BE RETIRED FROM SERVICE IN THE FUTURE,] WHO WAS
RETIRED PRIOR TO JULY 1, 1971, IN ADDITION TO THE
BENEFITS PROVIDED IN SECTION 31 OF THIS ARTICLE,
ON THE FOLLOWING BASIS:
