CHAPTER 424
(Senate Bill 22)

AN ACT to add new Sections 49A 49B and 125A to Article 26 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume and 1970
Supplement), title "Courts," subtitles "Pensions of Judges and
Their Widows," and "Municipal Court of Baltimore City," respec-
tively, to follow immediately after Sections 49 49A and 125 thereof,
respectively; to add new Section 11A to Article 73B of said Code
(1969 1970 Replacement Volume and 1970 Supplement), title "Pen-
sions," subtitle "In General," to follow immediately after Section
11 thereof; to add new Section 195A to Article 77 of said Code
(1969 Replacement Volume and 1970 Supplement), title "Public
Education," subtitle "Chapter 17. Teachers' Retirement System,"
to follow immediately after Section 195 thereof; and to add new
Section 53A SECTIONS 34A AND 53A to Article 88B of said
Code (1969 Replacement Volume and 1970 Supplement), title
"State Police," subtitle SUBTITLES RESPECTIVELY "PEN-
SIONS" AND "State Police Retirement System," to follow imme-
diately after Section 53 SECTIONS 34 AND 53 thereof; TO
REPEAL AND RE-ENACT, WITH AMENDMENTS, SECTION
14 (7) OF SAID ARTICLE 73B OF THE CODE, SUBTITLE
"IN GENERAL", SECTION 198(7) OF SAID ARTICLE 77 OF
THE CODE, SUBTITLE "CHAPTER 17. TEACHERS' RETIRE-
MENT SYSTEM", AND SECTIONS 31A AND 56(7) OF SAID
ARTICLE 88B OF THE CODE, SUBTITLES RESPECTIVELY
"PENSIONS" AND "STATE POLICE RETIREMENT SYS-
TEM" to provide for adjustments in the several retirement sys-
tems for Circuit Court judges APPELLATE AND CIRCUIT
COURT JUDGES, judges of the Municipal Court of Baltimore
City, State employees, teachers, and members of the State Police,
with the adjustments predicated upon increases in the Consumer
Price Index, to define Consumer Price Index, to provide for the
method of determining the adjustments, to provide for certain
exceptions to the adjustments, TO PROVIDE FOR THE TERMI-
NATION OF SUPPLEMENTARY PAYMENTS TO PERSONS
RETIRING AFTER THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ACT,
and dealing generally with revising the amount of pension benefits
payable to the retired members of the several systems in accordance
with changes in the Consumer Price Index as defined.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Sections 49A 49B and 125A be and they are hereby added
to Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replacement
Volume and 1970 Supplement), title "Courts," subtitles "Pensions
of Judges and Their Widows," and "Municipal Court of Baltimore
City," respectively, to follow immediately after Sections 49 49A and
125 thereof, respectively, and to read as follows:

(a) For the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1971, and for each
fiscal year thereafter, each retired member's retirement allowance as
hereunder defined, shall be adjusted by a ratio as provided in this
section.
