COUNTY'S JAILS, DETENTION CENTERS, HOSPITALS, PENAL
INSTITUTIONS OR PLACES OF CONFINEMENT; (3) THE
SECURITY OF ALL STATE COURTS; (4) TRANSPORTATION
OF ALL LEGALLY DETAINED PERSONS. NEITHER THE
SHERIFF NOR ANY OF HIS DEPUTIES SHALL CONDUCT
CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS EXCEPT IN MATTERS CON-
CERNING THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AND/OR THE
COUNTY DETENTION CENTER. THE SHERIFF SHALL BE
REQUIRED TO DEVOTE HIS ENTIRE TIME TO THE DUTIES
OF HIS OFFICE.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

CHAPTER 308
(House Bill 538)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 53(1) of
Article 2B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replace-
ment Volume and 1970 Supplement), title "Alcoholic Beverages,"
subtitle "General Provisions on Issue of Licenses." subheading
"Prince George's County—Generally," to increase by three (3)
the Class D beer and light wine licenses, to increase by three (3)
the number of Class A beer, wine and liquor licenses, and to
increase by three (3) the number of Class B beer, wine and liquor
licenses.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 53(1) of Article 2B of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1968 Replacement Volume and 1970 Supplement), title "Alcoholic
Beverages," subtitle "General Provisions on Issue of Licenses," sub-
heading "Prince George's County—Generally," be and the same is
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments to read as follows:

53. Prince George's County—Generally.

(1) Number of licenses issued.—The number of licenses of each
class of alcoholic beverages licenses in Prince George's County shall
not exceed the following maximum amounts:

Beer license, Class A........................................................     25

Beer license, Class B ........................................................       7

Beer license, Class C ........................................................     10

Beer license, Class D ........................................................     55

Beer and light wine license, Class A............................     20

Beer and light wine license, Class B............................     18

Beer and light wine license, Class C............................     10
