Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 20(a) of Article 100 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1970 Supplement), title "Work, Labor and Employment,"
subtitle "Employment of Minors," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
20.
(a) No minor under the age of 16 years shall be employed, per-
mitted or suffered to work in any gainful occupation as defined
in this subtitle for more than 6 days a week or for more than 3
hours on any school day nor for more than 8 hours on any nonschool
day, or for more than 23 hours in a week during which school is
in session for 5 or more days or for more than 40 hours in any
one week when the schools are not in session. In any one week
in which school is in session for less than 5 days, such child may
be employed for not more than 8 hours on any one day that school
is not in session, but in no case shall his total hours during such
week exceed forty. No minor under 16 years of age who is gain-
fully employed within the meaning of this subtitle shall be employed,
permitted or suffered to work before the hour of 7 a.m. or after
the evening hour of 7 p.m. except during the summer, June 1 through
Labor Day, when the evening hour will be 9 p.m. Nothing in this
section shall be construed as limiting the number of hours of employ-
ment of any minor participating in an experimental school-super-
vised and school-administered work-experience and career explora-
tion program approved by the Secretary of Labor of the United
States.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 301 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Somerset County (1963 Edition and
1967 Supplement, being Article 20 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland), title "Somerset County," subtitle "Roads," sub-
heading "Roads Board," to delete the reference to a mandatory
meeting of the Somerset County Roads Board with the Somerset
County Commissioners on the fourth Friday of each month.

shall each receive, in addition to their compensation as County Com-
