An Act to enact new Sections 19.300, 19.301, 19.302, 19.303 and
19.304 of the Howard County Code, title "Recreation and Parks",
subtitle "Historical Landmarks and Sites Division BOARD", to set
forth the composition of the Division BOARD, its purposes and amount
of compensation to Division BOARD members.
Section 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF
HOWARD COUNTY, MARYLAND, That Sections 19.300, 19.301, 19.302,
19.303 and 19.304 be and they are hereby added to Title 19 of the Howard
County Code, "Recreation and Parks," subtitle "Historical Landmarks
and Sites Division BOARD," to read as follows:
19.300—Historical Landmarks and Sites Division BOARD
There is hereby created an Historical Landmarks and Sites Division
BOARD which shall be a part of the Department of Recreation and Parks
of Howard County.
19.301—Purpose
The purpose of the Historical Landmarks and Sites Division BOARD
of the Department of Recreation and Parks shall be to record the history
of Howard County's landmarks and sites, to preserve historical buildings,
land and landmarks and sites. To acquire by purchase and/or by gift such
buildings, landmarks or sites which are deemed necessary for the preser-
vation of the history of Howard County.
19.302 Chairman EXECUTIVE SECRETARY Membership
The Chairman EXECUTIVE SECRETARY of the Division BOARD
shall be the Director of the Department of Recreation and Parks. Members
of the Division BOARD, who shall be appointed by the County Executive
with consent of the County Council, shall be persons who reside in Howard
County and who are interested and active in the preservation of Howard
County history and in the preservation of historical landmarks and sites.
There shall be nine members appointed to the Historical Landmarks
and Sites Division BOARD. Three shall serve a term of three years, six
shall serve a term of two years. The Division BOARD members shall
meet bi-monthly, or as often as necessary to conduct their business. The
Division BOARD shall coordinate its work with that of the Department
of Recreation and Parks of Howard County and strive for the fulfillment
of the meaning and intent of this law, and to report at least yearly to the
County Executive and County Council as to their progress.
19.303—Compensation
Each member of the Division, except the Chairman, shall be compen-
sated yearly in the amount of $200.00.
MEMBERS OF THE BOARD SHALL RECEIVE NO COMPEN-
SATION FOR SERVICE RENDERED TO THE BOARD EXCEPT
REASONABLE AND PROPER EXPENSES WHICH MAY BE ALLO-
CATED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL IN THE ANNUAL BUDGET.
