and by the signatory making such request. THIS ACT SHALL NOT
AUTHORIZE THE EXPENDITURE OF ANY STATE FUNDS
TO ACQUIRE ANY TRANSIT COMPANY BY CONDEMNATION
OR OTHERWISE AS PROVIDED BY ARTICLE 41 SECTION
317-56 (E).

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That until such time as Vir-
ginia and Congress approve the Compact as amended by the
General Assembly of Maryland in regular session in 1971, the Com-
pact adopted under Chapter 613, Acts of the General Assembly of
Maryland, 1959, as last amended by Chapter 872, Acts of the General
Assembly, 1963, shall prevail.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall become
effective upon the adoption of substantially similar amendments to
the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Regulation Compact
by each of the signatories of the Compact, and upon the approval
of the amendments to the Compact by the Congress of the United
States.

CHAPTER 719
(House Bill 767)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 302 (a)
of Article 93 A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Protection of Minors and Other Persons
Under Disability," subtitle "Uniform Gifts to Minors Act," and
Section 501 (a) of said Article 93A, subtitle "Miscellaneous Provi-
sions Relating to Minors," providing that Section 9-109 (b) of
Article 93 constitutes an alternative procedure for a testamentary
appointment of a custodian, that the Uniform Gifts to Minors
Act may be used by trustees where the governing instrument does
not refer to the Act, and that the procedures of Section 501 (a)
of Article 93A apply, to distributions from estates and trusts.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 302(a) of Article 93A of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1969 Replacement Volume), title "Protection of Minors and
Other Persons Under Disability," subtitle "Uniform Gifts to Minors
Act," and Section 501(a) of said Article 93A, subtitle "Miscellaneous
Provisions Relating to Minors," be and they are hereby repealed
and re-enacted with amendments, to read as follows:

302.

(a) Methods enumerated.—An adult may, during his lifetime or
by will, make a gift of a security, a life insurance policy or annuity
contract or money, or real estate, tangible personal property or any
other property to a person who is a minor on the date of the gift
or distribution:
